With heavy hearts, the Ojuolape family announces the passing of Hon. Justice Edward Adepoju Ojuolape, a former Acting Chief Judge of the old Ondo State judiciary. At the remarkable age of 97, his departure marks the end of a life defined by integrity, wisdom, and an unwavering dedication to justice.
Hon. Justice Ojuolape, a nonagenarian, served with distinction, leaving an impeccable legacy on the bench. His career in the judiciary was exemplary, marked by fairness, integrity, and a commitment to upholding the law without blemish. His contributions remain an enduring inspiration to the Ondo State judiciary and the Ekiti judiciary, which was carved out of it. Both will forever remember him for his profound impact.
Beyond his judicial prowess, Hon. Justice Ojuolape was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, whose influence shaped generations. He was a cornerstone of strength and love, nurturing a family that cherishes his memory and values. Hon. Justice Ojuolape was also an entrepreneur with a vision for creating opportunities and fostering progress. His endeavors reflected his belief in diligence, innovation, and the power of service to society.
As his daughter, I reflect with immense pride on how his values inspired and birthed WIPSI—the Women in Prison Support Initiative. WIPSI was built on the pillars of his belief in the strength of women and their critical role in building civil society. His belief in the strength and independence of women informed his life and work. As Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Women in Prison Support Initiative (WIPSI), he championed the critical role of women in building a strong civil society. His vision and support laid a foundation upon which WIPSI continues to thrive, promoting the empowerment of women in vulnerable circumstances.
His passion for women’s rights extended beyond WIPSI to his family. He took pride in raising both strong sons and powerful daughters. Hon. Justice Ojuolape would often fondly recount his father’s famous saying: “One woman in my house is equal to two men in your own family.” This conviction became a family mantra, reflecting their enduring commitment to nurturing strength and resilience across generations.
As we mourn this irreplaceable loss, WIPSI remains committed to carrying forward his legacy. His dedication to justice, empowerment, and service will continue to inspire our mission. The void he leaves is immense, but his life’s work will be celebrated and upheld.
Hon. Justice Ojuolape’s memory will be forever etched in our hearts. His wisdom, leadership, and love will live on in the family he cherished and the many lives he touched.
